Meanwhile, in Other News

Apart from moving house, we have had time for a bit of fun in the first half of 2011.

  • In January we took the boys to several Sydney Festival events, including the big opening night extravaganza, kids' act "La La's Big Live Band" at the Spiegel Tent, and a very different tent called Mirazozo by Architects of Air.
  • We spent a wonderful Australia Day with friends Siobhan and Mark and their sons Christian and Sammy, chilling out in their pool on a scorching 40+ degree day.
  • Our final Cecil Street Cinema featured Disney's Enchanted and It's Complicated, to the amusement of all.
  • In February, Flick swam in the Cole Classic, a 1km ocean swim from Shelly Beach to Manly Beach.  She was so quick the boys and I almost didn't make it round in time to see her come out.
  • Jamie's second birthday featured a Gruffalo theme, with another great cake by Flick.
  • We've only managed one dinner party so far this year - our traditional Easter Roast, this year with Cecil St neighbours and friends who had helped us get the house ready for sale.
  • We've also been privileged to attend a couple of great weddings, and extend our very hearty congratulations to Pam and Mark and Connor and Ali.
  • And congratulations go to Flick's sister Rose and husband Ken on the arrival of Alexander in May.
  • Plus we've had a few mothers' group outings and parties, trips to the zoo and meals with friends.
  • Dave manage a couple of Twilight sails and DJ'd for the end of season party at the Yacht Club.  We dropped in with the boys for the Commodore's Picnic at what is now one of our nearby beaches.
Charlie started Pre-school this year two days a week and seems to be enjoying it.  He is quite keen on the idea of having his teachers around for a pyjama party.  His current career aspiration is to drive a rubbish truck (an idea brought on by the latest Toy Story movie) and he loves using boxes and bits and pieces to make his own.  He is often very helpful and considerate, but tends to get a little over-excited at times, which leads to some rough behaviour.

Jamie is now at Family Day Care one to two days per week, which is giving Flick a bit of much needed time off.  He is immensely strong willed and somewhat un-disciplinable at the moment, though with his language developing he is starting to get the idea of rewards for good behaviour.  He is very inquisitive and likes figuring out how things work: clasps and buckles, Dad's tools, the oven... much like his father was at the same age.  He can be delightfully cute and cuddly when he's not making mischief.
