It's hard to believe, but Charlie is now five! After a bit of persuading away from some fairly difficult sounding party themes we managed to convince him that a pirate party would be the go. He then became
very excited in the lead up. Flick made some great costumes for him and Jamie and weaved her usual magic with a treasure chest cake. I was quite proud of my pirate treasure hunt, complete with rhyming clues on ancient parchment (OK, tea soaked copy paper with burnt edges). Unfortunately, I ran out of time and energy to make a birthday music mix CD.
We had about 16 kids on the day and think that a good time was had by all. It was also the debut event for our new back lawn and in spite of it being early August we had a cloudless and windless afternoon reaching 21 degrees.
Many thanks to Granny Susan, who stayed with us for a couple of weeks during the party lead up and has been the first to "test drive" sleeping in the cottage.
