Flick's Nana passed away in late September aged 98. A loving farmer's wife, mother, nana and great nana based at the farm on Trooper's Road between Te Kuiti and Pio Pio, Flick loved her very much and we all returned for the funeral. She never lost her Scottish lilt and spent her life looking after others, with many a gentle cheeky rib.
We flew into Wellington and out of Auckland, enabling us to catch up with our parents and Flick's remaining Granny amongst others. Unfortunately James (belatedly) learnt that it is not a good idea to run up to strange dogs and try to give them a hug, even when they are friendly looking Labradors tied up outside shopping malls. On this occasion the dog was taken by surprise and lashed out, leaving James requiring an ambulance trip, about thirty stitches near his mouth and on his neck and an overnight stay in hospital! Luckily it wasn't any more serious.
Arriving in Te Kuiti we stayed with Rose & Ken, Maddie & Alex along with Ken & Susan. At the farm we had a great family reunion, catching up with whanau who in some cases we hadn't seen for many years.

While a sad occasion, the funeral was a joyful celebration of a long life well lived. Flick read a poem and said a few words about the good times she had spent on the farm during school holidays.
Before leaving Auckland we were also able to hook up with Flick's old school friend Carol plus Dean and their family in a lovely park.
